THCa Diamonds are the most concentrated THC product you can find on the cannabis market. They quite literally look like white crystalline diamonds, but they’re not as hard. You can easily break one into tiny pieces, which makes for easy portioning into your favourite dab rig. This concentrate is comprised entirely of THCa (inactive) and THC (activated). When heated, the THCa becomes activated as it loses the “a” (its acid group) and becomes THC. These pure THCa diamonds can be consumed as you would any concentrate. A dab rig or pen are convenient ways to vaporize it. You can also mix it with other solid concentrates to get that ultra-high THC hit, with a bit of flavour from the other concentrate(s). It can also be used as an ingredient in baking and cooking (instructions below). There is no flavour or aroma, due to this being 100% pure THC/THCa with no other compounds present (e.g., terpenes, which are responsible for smell and taste).

HOW ARE THCA DIAMONDS MADE?

Live resin is typically the starting material of choice for making diamonds since live resin is inherently high in THCa. Residual solvent (e.g., butane) is removed from the live resin using gentle vacuum and heat and then left alone to allow the terpenes (sauce) to separate from the cannabinoid crystals that begin to slowly form. Cannabinoids begin to crystallize when they reach their saturation point and come out of liquid solution naturally, resulting in a solid precipitate (diamonds).

Q: WHY ARE THERE ONLY 0.75 GRAMS (NOT A FULL GRAM) OF DIAMONDS IN MY GREYBEARD DIAMONDS PACKAGE?

A: The Cannabis Act (section 6.3.2 Maximum Quantities) stipulates that there can be no more than 1000 mg THC in a single cannabis extract package. Due to the high purity of THCA diamonds (100% THCA, which converts to THC upon heating), there is a potential for greater than 1000 mg THCA/THC to be in a one gram package of Greybeard diamonds. For this reason, Greybeard played it safe and only packaged 0.75 grams of their highly pure diamonds to avoid potential recall orders due to having just over 1000 mg THCA/THC in a single cannabis extract package.

COOKING & BAKING WITH THCA DIAMONDS!

The fact THCa diamonds are flavourless, odourless and pure THCa makes them an ideal cannabis ingredient for cooking and baking. As opposed to using homemade cannabutter,

where THC dosage is a guessing game, using pure THCa diamonds is an excellent way to know how many milligrams of THC/THCa are in your homemade canna-goods. Since you are starting with 100% pure THCa, calculating this is easy:

For example, if you have a recipe that makes a dozen (12) cookies and you want each cookie to be 10 mg, add 0.12 grams of THCa diamonds (120 mg).

THC Cookies equation

Since THCa is only activated to the intoxicating THC upon removal of the acid group (“a”) by heating, decarboxylating (or pre-heating) your THCa prior to cooking or baking will improve its potency simply by early conversion of the THCa to THC. If you are baking with this ingredient, the heating processing while baking will inevitably decarboxylate the majority of the THCa diamonds you’ve added to your recipe. Pre-baking/cooking activation just ensures the greatest activation of the total quantity of THCa ingredient before you use it for baking or cooking.

To activate your THCa diamonds, follow this recipe by Greybeard:

When making homemade cannabis goodies, the final actual THC content of each cookie will fluctuate a bit from cookie to cookie given that home cooking is not as standardized as commercial baking or cooking. Using the dozen cookies example, the final mg per 10mg cookie can be ~9-11 mg.

To all the THC seekers out there, if you haven’t tried 100% pure THCa diamonds, consider giving them a whirl. Remember there is no flavour associated with them but boy are they ever a potency boost. Start with a tiny piece first, you can always hit that rig again. Enjoy!
